On-time Graduation Administrator - Kirsten Copeland
Kirsten Copeland brings over 20 years of social services and public education experience to the on-time graduation administrator role he began in 2025. He leads student support initiatives in collaboration with schools and families to help students graduate on time.
Throughout his career, Kirsten served as a classroom teacher, principal and district-level leader with a strong focus on student success. He served as director of professional learning in another Washington school district, where he led district-wide initiatives to strengthen instructional coaching, promote Universal Design for Learning and support the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. As a former principal, he is recognized for his success in building collaborative systems that improved academic outcomes and reduced exclusionary discipline rates.
Kirsten is deeply committed to ensure every student has the support, opportunity and encouragement needed to graduate on time and thrive beyond high school. He is passionate about eliminating barriers to success and believes that strong relationships, aligned systems and high expectations are key to achieving equitable outcomes for all students. - Student Re-engagement & On-Time Graduation
- Leads district-wide efforts to re-engage students and improve on-time graduation rates by coordinating targeted support services and interventions.
- Leadership of Student Services
- Oversees the district social worker team and external mental health providers, ensuring effective integration with schools to support students and families.
- Compliance & Fair Discipline Support
- Serves as the district compliance officer for student-related issues including attendance (Becca); harassment, intimidation, and bullying; discipline; civil rights and Title IX, promoting fair practices across schools.
- Attendance Improvement & Monitoring
- Collaborates with the Learning and Teaching department to lead initiatives that improve student attendance and engagement, particularly in schools with high absenteeism.
- Family & Community Engagement
- Builds strong relationships with families and community members to address barriers to student success, with a focus on underserved populations.
- Data-Driven Systems & Reporting
- Manages federal and state reporting for areas including McKinney-Vento, graduation rates and student discipline, ensuring data informs strategic planning and school improvement.
- Policy & Procedure Monitoring
- Maintains and updates district policies and administrative procedures related to student services, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and best practices.
- Cultural Responsiveness Practices
- Promotes a culturally responsive approach to leadership, fostering a sense of belonging for all students and staff.
- Professional Development & Staff Collaboration
- Provides training and coaching for principals and staff around student services and culturally responsive compliance.
- Resource Management & Grant Oversight
- Coordinates staffing and fiscal resources for student services programs, including oversight of related grants, in collaboration with district leadership.
