Early Entrance Evaluation for Kindergarten

Although uncommon, some children who are not quite 5-years-old on August 31 may be kindergarten-ready. For those students, we offer a limited early entrance evaluation process with the following criteria and conditions:

  • The child will be 5-years-old before October 15.
  • Child must be fully potty-trained.
  • Early entrance depends on an evaluation for kindergarten-readiness in the areas of academic, social, and emotional readiness, and motor skills. The evaluation will be conducted by current kindergarten teachers.
  • There is a non-refundable $100 fee to cover evaluation costs, due on the day of the evaluation.
  • The evaluation date will be June. There will be no make-up time if an appointment is missed.
  • Parents/Guardians will be notified in early August if the child is kindergarten-ready.
  • Kindergarten-ready students may attend kindergarten if the local elementary school has space after all staff and students of the standard age are placed. Students may be kindergarten-ready, but actual enrollment is dependent on space available, up until late August. Early-entrance students will be placed at the end of the registration line.
  • Parents/Guardians can choose to enroll the child into another District school through the CVSD “choice” process and provide transportation to and from that school. Transferring to another District school is also limited by the space available and will not be decided until late August.
