We know that times can be challenging, and we want our families to know they’re not alone. If your family is in need of support—whether it’s food, clothing, or other essential resources—please reach out directly to us or to a trusted individual at your child's school. We’re here to help connect you with the assistance you need to ensure every student and family feels supported and cared for.

Welcome Students and Families

The Central Valley School District Student and Family Engagement (SAFE) Center is working to create a community hub that serves the social, emotional, academic, medical, mental health and nutritional needs of students and families in our community. The center officially opened to our students and families in October of 2021.

All engagement center services are free and available to all children, youth, parents and families who live in CVSD regardless of social, ethnic or socioeconomic status.

The school district provides services through its homeless liaisons, social workers, English Language Development staff, school nurses, and many other highly-qualified staff.

Current Services Available:

  • Technology Center – computer access, school registration, printing, research, homework and more
  • Clothing and Food Bank – food & clothing for children and adults, diapers and wipes, coats, books and more
  • Community Room – play area, seating, meeting table, internet access
  • Laundry Services – three washers and dryers available to use for no cost; please schedule an appointment
  • Parenting Classes – scheduled periodically throughout the year; check our events page and calendar
  • Boys and Girls Club at Keystone – a valuable partner with our programs, offering After School Care and Summer Care to students in the Spokane Valley. We are fortunate to share space with them here at the SAFE Center. For more information about the Boys and Girls Club at Keystone, please contact them directly: 509-270-0351.
  • The center holds a Back-to-School Resource fair in August providing hundreds of backpacks and supplies to students in need.
We are always looking for more ways to serve families in our district. If you have an idea or resource that you think would benefit families in the Central Valley School District, please reach out to us at 509-558-6557 or email [email protected]

Our History:

Keystone Elementary opened in 1970 at 612 S. McDonald Road and was a beloved school to thousands of neighborhood students for 33 years until the school closed in 2003. Later, it was the home for Summit School and eventually housed students while other schools were under construction.

In 2019, CVSD partnered with Boys and Girls Club and turned the former elementary into a center that houses an after-school club for kids along with the district’s social services programs. In May of 2021, we surveyed students, families and the community to see what services were needed and would be most useful.

Join us and help make an even better Student and Family Engagement Center!

If you would like to partner with us, provide services or donate, please let us know by contacting Jenna Alfrey at [email protected] or 509-558-6557.
