This year, students earned state and national recognition in academics, career and technical education, leadership, athletics and the performing arts. Highlights include top state honors through Washington HOSA and FBLA, and national distinction for CyberPatriots.

The Educational Opportunity Project at Stanford University recognized CVSD as among Washington’s Districts on the Rise in both math and reading, “Central Valley School District (CVSD) stands out for scaling a truly system-wide instructional model across all 29 schools.”
Seven of our schools were recently recognized by the Washington School Recognition Program for their work in closing opportunity gaps and supporting students' growth and academic achievement, including Adams, Chester and University Elementary Schools, Summit School, Selkirk Middle School, Ridgeline High School and Spokane Valley Tech.
McDonald Elementary became one of four Washington schools to receive a National Distinguished Schools Award for exceptional student performance and academic growth.

Horizon Middle School was honored as the recipient of the 2025 Association of Washington Student Leaders (AWSL) Culture Kickoff Award, recognizing the outstanding efforts of WEB Leaders, ASB students, and advisors in creating an intentional, inclusive, and student-centered start to the school year. AWSL praised HMS for fostering connection, collaboration, and belonging through strong student and staff leadership.

Superintendent John Parker was honored with a Robert J. Handy Most Effective Administrator Award for large districts by the Washington Association of School Administrators.
