Listening to our community for the 2026-2027 School Calendar...CVSD is listening to feedback on our school calendar—designed to support academic pacing and student well-being. A recent survey of parents, students and staff showed 73–84% satisfaction—affirming our general direction. Overall satisfaction ran high across all three groups:
First quarter breaks drew favorable ratings from parents (76.2%), students (84%) and staff (83.4%). Parents commented about conference scheduling, childcare/working‑parent impacts and clarity around late starts and holidays. Students appreciated periodic breaks to “reset” and noted pacing around preparation time for Advanced Placement tests. Planning ahead for the 2026-2027 School Calendar...The district will do a quick check in again by February 23, during and following the new midwinter break, then use this input to fine tune the 2026-2027 calendar. Once adopted by the School Board not long after, it will be communicated out. For more info and the survey results: www.cvsd.org/BalancedCalendar |
The 2026-2027 School Calendar timing exception...You informed us through our survey that you would rather have the following year's calendar further in advance for planning purposes. We heard you and will do so in the future. This year is an exception — not the rule — due to the changes and wanting to get feedback about the breaks as they occurred. 2026-2027 student course registration & school registration dates...Due to waiting to get feedback and not yet having an approved calendar, the district will be using transition dates for course registration and school registration, using August 1, 2026 as the start date for the courses and registration. However, this is NOT the first day of school. It is used for registration purposes ONLY. As soon as the 2026-2027 School Calendar is approved, it will be communicated out to you directly. |
Special Program Opportunities...for Students for Midwinter break February 16-20Again, we listened to your feedback about childcare during breaks. Midwinter break is February 16-20 and both our partners at the HUB Sports Center and Spokane Valley Boys and Girls Club are offering safe and affordable programs for children to participate, play and connect during break. We are grateful for these community partners and their efforts to provide additioan options for our families and students. |
