CVSD Response to HS Walkouts

The district was aware of a student-organized walkout on Tuesday, January 20. While peaceful demonstrations are permitted, they must take place in locations and at times that do not pose safety risks or disrupt classes or other school activities.

The district’s top priority is ensuring that the school day continues as usual and that all students and staff remain safe. Although the district respects students’ rights to express themselves, this walkout is student-organized and not a school-sponsored event.

District staff was present on campus to support student safety; however, staff did not supervise students who choose to leave school grounds. Student absences were addressed in accordance with the district’s standard attendance policy. Parents were informed they may contact the attendance office in advance to excuse an absence—any other students were marked with an unexcused absence.

Students were encouraged to express their views responsibly and should be prepared to make up any missed academic work.
