Slight Shift in School Boundaries

Opportunity Elementary is on the move as our neighborhood continues to grow! As more families move, some schools get very full, while others have more space. To help, the school district shifted boundary lines so students are shared more evenly. This means some students may go to a different school next year. This helps keep class sizes fair and makes sure all students have enough space, teachers and support. The CVSD School Board approved new boundaries for the 2026-2027 School Year at their April 27, 2026 board meeting.

If you are in one of new boundary areas going to Broadway, McDonald or Progress Elementary Schools, please join us for a Community Open House at your new 2026-2027 school.

Transition Plan and Option Process

Transition Plan and Option Process:

All of our schools offer great learning, but families also have choices. Some families may choose to stay at Opportunity, but will need to provide transportation, if necessary. Kindergarten students and new students will go to their new school. Students with older siblings may ask to stay together.

The following Option Process was developed in the best interest of our families to facilitate a smooth transition.

All Kindergartners within an attendance boundary change area will attend their new boundary school (Broadway, McDonald, Progress or University Elementary). Only kindergartners with an older sibling at Opportunity are eligible to opt to stay.*
Grades 1-5 can opt to stay at Opportunity.* If a student opts to stay, then they will be a student of that school for the continuum of grades offered there, as long as they lived within the Opportunity attendance area boundary in 2025-2026.
Any new student who moves into the Opportunity boundary after March 2, 2026 will go to the 2026-2027 attendance area boundaries.

* NOTE ON TRANSPORTATION: Families who opt to stay at Opportunity, rather than their new boundary school (Broadway, McDonald, Progress or University Elementary) will be responsible for their own transportation for the continuum of their education at Opportunity, following Board Policy 3130 Choice Transfers and 3131 Attendance Area Transfers.

Planning for the Future
In order to plan for the 2026-2027 school year and staffing to accommodate students, families will be asked to fill out their Preference for School Attendance by May 15, 2026. This information will be used to plan for a smooth transition in the fall of 2026.

Q. If I have a 1-5 grader who was at Opportunity in 2025-2026 and is in a new boundary school area for 2026-2027, can I opt them back to Opportunity?

A. You will be able to opt back to Opportunity. However, you will need to provide transportation, following CVSD policy.

Q. If I have a 1-5 grader who was at Opportunity in 2025-2026 and a kindergartner starting school in the fall of 2026, what are my options?

1. Your kindergartner and 1-5 grader can both attend Opportunity in the fall of 2026. However, you will need to provide transportation, following CVSD policy.

2.Your kindergartner and 1-5 grader can both attend the new boundary school and the district will provide transportation, if located in the busing area. However, if they are in a one-mile walking radius to the new school, which is likely, they will walk to the new school.

3.The kindergartner can attend the new boundary school and your other child can attend Opportunity. The district will transport the kindergartner to the new boundary school, if located in a busing area. If they are in a one-mile walking radius to the school, which is likely, they will walk to the new school. You will need to provide transportation to the child staying at Opportunity, following CVSD policy.
