Director of Business Services - Mathew Knott
Business Services is not just about money. The team manages and allocates funds to ensure schools have necessary resources to support student learning and achievement. They develop budgets, monitor expenditures and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. This work helps schools operate efficiently and equitably, providing all students access to quality education.
Mathew Knott joined CVSD in May of 2020. Before that, he spent eleven years in three school districts across Washington and two years at the Washington State Auditor’s Office. He has a passion for school finance, which led him to serve as a board member for the Washington Association of School Business Officials (WASBO), where he served as President. Below are a few of the various areas that Mathew oversees.
- Department Leadership
- Oversees all functions of the Business Services department, including accounting, payroll, purchasing, risk management and benefits.
- Budget Development & Oversight
- Leads the development and management of the district’s annual budget, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and financial sustainability.
- Financial Reporting
- Prepares and presents accurate financial reports, including annual financial statements and ad hoc analyses.
- Financial Monitoring & Improvement
- Monitors the district’s financial health, including cash flow and implements improvements as needed.
- Regulatory Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations through effective fiscal policies, internal controls and reporting.
- Risk Management
- Manages risk through coordination of property and liability insurance programs, including annual renewals and broker relations.
- Team Supervision & Development
- Supervises and supports Business Services team, including evaluations, training and professional development.
