Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL)

Designed to measure student proficiency of rigorous state academic standards, the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) is given to Central Valley students each spring. The standardized test is organized by content area at various grade levels.

  • Reading and Math – Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10
  • Writing – Grades 4, 7 and 10
  • Science – Grades 5, 8 and 10
  • Optional – students in grade 9 may take any or all parts of the WASL

August 2008 WASL Testing - University High
Registration for the August 2008 WASL was held in June and is now closed. The testing window (August 11-14) is for students in grades 9 through 12 who need to pass one or more of the reading, writing and math WASLs. Science, not yet a graduation requirement, is not given in August. Reading is scheduled for August 11, math on August 12 and writing on August 13 and 14. Register or learn more about testing locations by visiting  www.k12.wa.us/waslregistration or by calling toll-free 1.866.400.WASL (9275), with support 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.

Students must report for testing at 8 a.m. All tests must be completed on the scheduled day.

Students are asked to bring the following to August WASL Testing:

  • Official school or government picture ID (required)
  • Spring 2008 WASL Score Reports (if available)
  • Pre-registration confirmations (if available)
  • Calculators for Mathematics testing if desired; if you do not have a calculator one will be available at the test site
  • Bring or make arrangements for lunch; snacks will be provided
