Tips for Success in Summer School

Tips for success in Smithy’s Summer School Classes

  1. Make sure to review your sentence chops and notes.  You should make an outline of the class using the points listed in the sentence chops as the main points of the outline, and then explain the points in a manner that will help you to understand these points.  You should also consider making flash cards out of your sentence chops and notes.
  2. When answering your sentence chops, make sure to read ALL of the materials.  If you simply scan the chapters, you may find the answers to the sentence chops, but you will not fully understand the material.  A complete understanding of the material is necessary for you to do well in the class.
  3. When writing essays, make sure to use the I SERC U method of writing that we discussed in class and make sure that your writing can “stand alone.”
  4. Frequently check your grades online to make sure that you have been given credit for all of your work.
  5. Consider doing extra credit (see extra credit page).
