 8051  Child Development 1

Prerequisite-None

Grade- 10, 11, 12

The emphasis in this class is on how and why children develop as they do.  Infant and toddler care begins with factors that influence prenatal growth and progress up through the age three.

Theories related to physical, social, emotional, cognitive and creative development will be explored. An important part of this course is studying the principles and scope of care giving.  Students who successfully meet the requirements of Child Development 1 and 2 may earn 5 college credits through our articulation program with Spokane Falls Community College.

 

8052  Child Development 2

 Prerequisite- Child Development 1

Grade- 10, 11, 12

Students learn by interacting with children while researching growth and development. Students will create materials and activities that enhance the child’s learning and developmental growth. Students will recognition appropriate techniques in interacting with children that will support and nurture their growth.   Students will work four days a week at areas preschools and daycare centers.  Students will provide their own transportation to the field sites.  Students who successfully meet the requirements of Child Development 1 and 2 may earn 5 college credits through our articulation program with Spokane Falls Community College.

 

 8053  Child Development 3

Prerequisite- Child Development 1 and 2

Grade- 10, 11, 12

This course is the third in a series of Child Development courses articulated with the Community Colleges of Spokane.  This class is involved in working with children. Students will be placed in a teaching setting with preschool age children at area preschools.  Students will provide their own transportation to the field sites.  Students meeting Spokane Community College requirements can receive a total of 10 credits at the community college after completion of Child Development 1, 2, and 3 with a grade of “B” or better.
