Technology Integration Tiers

We all know technology is a great tool, but how can we use it best to support our students?  That is what Staff Development in Technology is all about.  There are trainings being offered organized according to OSPI's Tiers of Technology Integration that are designed to help you utilize technology in your classroom to the benefit of student learning. 

Tier 1 Teacher Focus on Productivity
Technology Supports the Learning Experience
The first tier of the Technology Integration into the Classroom Model focuses on teacher productivity.  Technology supports the learning experience of the students by providing tools to facilitate the teachers.  Tier 1 indicators include: Produce Learning Materials More Effectively, Find Instructional Resources on the Internet, Organizing Student Grades, Publish a Classroom Website .

Tier 2 Instructional Presentation and Student Productivity
Technology Enhances the Learning Experience
The second tier of the Technology Integration into the Classroom Model focuses on Instructional Presentation and Students Productivity where technology enhances the learning experience.  Indicators of Tier 2 include: Representing Information Visually, Conducting One Computer Classroom Lessons, Facilitating Group Discussions and Lessons, and Posting Educational Resources on Classroom Websites.

Tier 3 Student Centered Learning Classroom
Technology Transform the the Learning Experience
The final Tier of the Technology Integration Model focuses on student centered learning where technology transforms the learning experience.  Tier 3 Indicators include instruction that includes: Inquiry Based Essential Questions, Publishing Student Work, Writing, Developing and Publishing Products, Creating Web Quests, and Inventing Products Using Technology.
