A MESSAGE FROM MRS. McCOLLUM
Dear Parents and Community:
It is an honor to share with the Sunrise community our annual report. Sunrise Elementary was built in 1980 and is located on the corner of 24th and Adams. The building, with a flexible classroom design, remains in good condition and its gym, library, activity room and playing fields are in high demand during evenings and weekends.
We have many celebrations which could not have been accomplished without the support and encouragement of our community. The staff, volunteers, and families at Sunrise strive cooperatively to prepare our students to participate and succeed in a global society.
Our parent/teacher organization (PTO) is a critical part of the team at Sunrise. It plays an important role in the atmosphere, as well as the education of our students. The focus of the P.T.O. is to involve families and plan activities that encourage a strong relationship between school and home. Their purchase of a computer lab has been a marvelous benefit to the students and staff.
The Sunrise staff is a team of hard working and caring professionals dedicated to working in partnership with our community to instill in our children the confidence to be successful learners and contributing members of our society. The enthusiasm and commitment of the Sunrise staff nurtures an atmosphere that promotes safety and life-long learning, while appreciating individual differences. We continue to strive toward meeting our goals on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL).
The days set aside for staff development coupled with the funds we received from grants provide the staff the opportunity to participate in workshops to improve their teaching skills in the areas of reading, writing, math, and technology.
It is truly an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to work at Sunrise and to know that together we can make a difference. The Sunrise staff and students extend a warm and open invitation for you to visit us.
Sincerely,
Susan McCollum
Principal
