Communications -- Voyagers

Newsletters and Communication: Voyagers are often given written information regarding school-wide issues and upcoming Voyager events with the expectation that they will bring the information home. Copies of items sent home with the Voyagers can be found on the News Board outside Mrs. Dhillon’s classroom (Rm. 11). Voyager newsletters will be emailed out from the student’s basecamp teacher. These newsletters will include updates about classroom curriculum and upcoming events.

Volunteers: There are many opportunities to help out in the Summit School Voyager house, including classroom, workroom, and adventure/fieldwork outings. One only needs to have proper volunteer information forms on file in the office! Please let us know if you are available.

Collaboration Time: Summit Teachers spend collaboration time meeting and learning about the topics that are currently on our "plate." At any given time we are focusing on one Expedition item, one Pedagogy item (teaching practices), and one Culture and Character item. Our current plate items are documentation of our Expeditions on the computer system, Writer's Workshop, and adventure learning targets.

Y.M.C.A.: The Voyagers will be going to the Y.M.C.A. much earlier this year so that it does not conflict with our testing schedule. We will be learning about aerobic exercise and strength training in a circuit from October 26th to December 11th. Exact dates for each class will be announced.

Awards: Students can earn two awards as Voyagers: Peak Performance and North Star. The criterion for Peak Performance are: assignments must be completed and on time, models all aspects of dress standard on a daily basis, no court convictions. Peak Performance is awarded to all students who meet these criterion: The North Star Award is given to one student from each base camp each month. This selection is made by the teacher based on the C.R.E.W. traits.
