Dress Standard
The Summit School Dress Standard has been established to create an environmental focus on learning rather than fashion. Parental assistance will be invaluable in ensuring that students dress appropriate for an effective learning environment. The following standards have been established at Summit School (including during P.E., field work, school activities, etc.):
· Students at Summit School may choose clothing style and pattern but may not wear clothing which contains words, pictures, logos, embroidery, etc. A picture is defined as any addition to the clothing which is not part of the fabric pattern – i.e. silk-screenings, iron-ons, etc.
· Shirts need to cover a student’s stomach when their hands are raised over their head. Tank tops, spaghetti straps or straps less than three inches in width over the shoulder are not appropriate.
· Shorts are appropriate if they are at least finger tip length or longer when arms are hanging down at the sides.
· Shorts and pants must be secure at the waist, not sagging. Undergarments cannot be visible. Pants may have a manufacturer’s tag on the back of the pants only - i.e. Levi’s. Sweat/activity pants are appropriate only during P.E. times. Torn pants and pajama pants are not appropriate at school.
· Shoes should have a secure back or strap along the heel. If children want to wear backless shoes, they should bring a pair of shoes they can put on for recess and/or physical activities.
· Occasionally students may be involved in swimming activities through P.E. or other special activities. During these activities female students’ bathing suits must be one-piece. Male suits must have a drawstring at the waist.
· Hair color – temporary hair colors are not permitted.
· If students are wearing clothing that does not meet the criteria outlined in the Summit School Dress Standard, they will be quietly pulled aside and sent to the office to change into clothing provided by the office. The clothing will be provided for the day and will need to be returned to the office at the end of the day.
