Summit School Curriculum
Washington State has high standards for learning and teaching called Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) which are broken down to Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) these are our curriculum. A variety of experiences supporting the content areas of Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and the Arts are provided through Learning Expeditions. (Learning Expeditions are the primary way Summit School organizes curriculum.) It is important for parents and students to understand that Summit School does not adhere strictly to a particular textbook as our only resource. Rather, teachers at Summit School use a variety of resources and organize curriculum around theme-based learning expeditions based on state goals.

In Washington, four clear goals guide K-12 education. All students should be able to: 1. Read with comprehension, write with skill and communicate effectively 2. Know and apply core concepts and principles of mathematics, science, history, the arts, health and fitness 3. Think analytically, logically and creatively, using experience and knowledge to make reasoned judgments and solve problems 4. Understand the importance of work and how performance, effort and decisions affect future career and educational opportunities.
