Literacy

Our literacy program has two main components. In reading, we focus on using the thinking strategies. Activating schema, synthesizing, determining importance, fix-up strategies, making inferences, and mental images are the topics we discuss throughout the year. Our writing program has two parts. We use the 6 + 1 Traits of writing. The traits that are taught include: ideas, organization, conventions, word choice, voice, and sentence fluency.  We will also focus on the writing process including pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and publication.
