Background: Strategic Planning Process 2009/10
Central Valley School District launched an extensive, year-long process to update the district's Strategic Plan in Fall 2009. Setting a clear course for continuous student improvement requires thoughtful dialogue with many voices. The year-long planning process included engaging district employees, parents, students and community members in the process to create a roadmap for the district which is simple, relevant, sustainable and representative of all stakeholders. The updated Strategic Plan will guide the district for the next three to five years.
The Strategic Planning Process included eight steps:
Step 1: Form Core Planning Team (done - August 2009)
This 18-member group of staff and School Board members oversees and coordinates the year-long planning process.
Step 2: Create Data Portfolio (done - April 2010)
Portfolio includes perceptual, demographic, program and achievement data to help shape goals and the planning process. This step will include a survey of all employees.
Step 3: Clarify Commitments (done - October 2009)
A series of 13 Focus Groups were held with 260 individuals representing the district's key stakeholder groups - students, employees, parents and community members. Participants discussed and created a common understanding of the shared responsibility and commitment to Central Valley schools.
Step 4: Central Valley Summit (done - February 2010)
More than 150 of the district's key stakeholder groups came together on February 5 and 6 to review the draft commitment statements and goals and refine/develop a mission statement to help shape the strategic plan.
Step 5: Develop the Preliminary Plan (done - April 2010)
An Extended Core Team will be convened to review Summit results, refine stakeholder input and establish key action strategies essential to the accomplishment of the goals. The preliminary plan will be presented to the School Board for approval in May/June 2010.
Step 6: Create Action Plans (done June - August 2010)
The Core Planning Team and representative teams will develop action plans based on the preliminary strateigc plan. These Action Plans will contribute to the achievement of the goals of the plan.
Step 7: Coordinate Action Plans (done - Fall 2010)
Review and align plans, provide resources called for in plans and take on supportive action steps.
Step 8: Measure and Communicate Results (in process - 2010, 2011, 2012...)
Determine if action plans associated with strategies prove to be effective in meeting goals.
