Our mission in Health and Fitness at South Pines is helping students understand and enjoy lifelong Health and Fitness.
In order to accomplish this goal, a few simple rules must be followed. They are . . .
- Listen to the teacher.
- Think Safety! This includes wearing appropriate shoes every time!
- Be nice to and respectful of others.
- Always give your best effort!
We will be learning, understanding and applying the five components of fitness. These components are cardio-respiratory endurance, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance and body composition.
Greetings from Health & Fitness! Exercise is GREAT! Please remind your child that making smart food choices is important too!! Snacks from the top of the food pyramid are O.K…Just not everyday! The everyday foods should include plenty of fruits & vegetables! Remember, lots of exercise, nutritious foods and a good night’s rest is the best recipe for a HEALTHY life!!! Mr. Olson

South Pines Library website
Wow! The end of the school year is fast approaching. Our last day for book check-out will be May 30th. All books are due back to the library the next week, June 2nd-6th. Between June 9-13th we will create bills for students who have not returned their library books. If the books can’t be found and returned, please make a check out to South Pines for the amount on the bill and send it to school. Your student won’t receive their report card if there is an outstanding fine at the end of the school year.
Please don’t stop reading because we have to close down our library for the summer; instead consider visiting the Spokane County Public Library. They have lots of reading material plus a summer reading program for kids called “Catch the Reading Bug”; find out more at http://www.scld.lib.wa.us/kids.asp
Another cool way to keep up the reading is to log on to Book Adventure.com. Book Adventure is a FREE reading motivation program for children in grades K-8. Children create their own book lists from over 7,000 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they've read, and earn points and prizes for their literary successes. Book Adventure was created by and is maintained by Sylvan Learning. This is a great summer motivator that can be fun and replace the Accelerated Reader program that is only available in school. Give it a try! http://www.bookadventure.org/
Remember to have your students read at least 20 minutes every day!
Music
Mission statement:
In Music, we want children to learn to appreciate all the different types of Music. Through listening, creating and performing, this can be accomplished. Since we only meet twice a week, for a total of 60 minutes, our time is limited. Students need to always “try”, to the best of their ability, whether it is tapping out a rhythm, dancing, playing an instrument, or singing in a group. Each grade level will have one performance during the school year, that we would love to share with you!

From the Music Department
Things are happening! The 4th and 5th graders are preparing the musical “Adventures of Lewis and Clark”. We will be performing this on May 29th at 1:00 and again at 7:00. We hope to see you at one of our programs. If you child can not be at the evening performance, please let their classroom teacher know as soon as possible so that we can plan accordingly. We have been working hard and we look forward to seeing all of you there. The Kindergarten is also having their end of the year program and that will be June 4th at 1:00 and 7:00 in our gym. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders are enjoying the spring songs as well as learning more about Music.
