Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Community,

The purpose of this report is to review the 2000-2001 school year at Ponderosa.  It is a pleasure to share information about activities and programs with our community.

Ponderosa was built as an open concept school in 1979.  We take pride in our building.  It continues to be well maintained, used and respected by the community.  This year a PTSA Playground Committee has been formed to evaluate, plan, and facilitate playground improvements to meet the needs of our students and community.

Staff and parents continue to have high expectations for academics.  A skilled and creative staff combined with generous support and involvement from our parents provides a strong foundation for our students.  An Extended Learning Program for fifth grade students was started this year.  We continue to strive toward meeting our reading goal on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in grade 4, which is 69.7 (% of students) to meet or exceed the standard by 2001.  Parents continue to give valuable input on grants and programs.  We are proud of our educational partnership between students, staff, and parents.

Respect, responsibility, high expectations, and lifelong learning are important elements of our success.  The staff continues to participate in inservice training to better meet the varied needs of our students.  Student and staff learning have been enhanced through technology.

Ponderosa PTSA has contributed valuable time and skills.  Enrichment programs and activities enhance learning at Ponderosa.  PTSA support to students, staff, and parents is an important part of the Ponderosa program.

We invite you to visit Ponderosa and become involved with our community of learners.

IT'S A GREAT PLACE FOR ALL OF US TO LEARN!
