Dear Parents and Community:
This
document is one of several documents provided throughout
the year intended to keep our community informed of our
goals and accomplishments. With such a limited amount of
space, it is not possible to share all the exciting
experiences students are involved in at Opportunity;
therefore, we encourage you to visit us and see for
yourself why we enjoy working with children so much.
We are
committed to providing a positive learning experience for
our students. We recognize students as individuals and
for the special and unique gifts they contribute to our
school and the community they are a part of. With this in
mind, we have set the following building goals for the
1999-2000 school year:
- Students
and staff will demonstrate respect,
effort, and self-discipline.
- Students
will meet or exceed local and state
standards while being supported to
maximize their potential. (Read and Think
Analytically)
- Student
learning will be enhanced through the use
of technology.
- School,
families, and community will collaborate
to form effective partnerships.
- Ensure
a safe, secure, and effective learning
environment.
Parental
involvement at Opportunity is encouraged and highly
valued. In whatever capacity parents involve themselves
with their children's education -- as a volunteer,
attending school and community activities, reinforcing
and supporting academic needs at home, being a positive
role model -- this sends a strong, positive message to
their children on the value of education and enriches
their educational experience. It is important we work
together reinforcing and modeling daily the value of
education.
We value
our business partnership with Longhorn BBQ, a
relationship that benefits both the school and business
providing worthwhile opportunities for our students.
Our
retired senior volunteer program is a wonderful
opportunity for our students to work with reading mentors
who share their love of reading by enriching the lives of
our students.
We
continue to strive toward meeting our reading goal on the
Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in grade
4 which is 55% of students to meet or exceed the standard
by 2001.
Opportunity
is a great school. Again, we invite and encourage you to
visit and become part of the Opportunity learning
community.
Sincerely,
Lyle Krislock
Principal
