District Mission (Learning is our Focus)
We will ensure opportunities for successful learning according to each student’s needs and abilities. This will be achieved through a partnership of students, families, school, business, and government by setting high expectations, fostering self-discipline, respect, responsibility, and promoting life-long learning.

School Mission
At McDonald, we put the needs of children first.  We believe that all children can learn in an environment that is safe, nurturing and diverse.  Children at McDonald have a right to be happy and treated with compassion; no one should laugh at or hurt another's feelings.  Children have a right to be themselves and treated with respect.  McDonald students are encouraged to express their feelings and opinions without being ridiculed.  We honor and celebrate the uniqueness of each of our students

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Community:

We are pleased to have the opportunity to introduce you to McDonald Elementary School because we feel this is a place where quality learning takes place!  Our staff believes that all students are able to learn, that learning is primary in our goals for the school and that learning is fun.  We work towards having our students meet or exceed the state academic learning standards and strongly believe families and school…working together…is what makes this happen.

Our curriculum at McDonald focuses on the Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALR's), namely math and reasoning, reading and writing activities…along with many other areas of the curriculum that integrate with these core subjects.  We view our environment as safe, friendly, respectful and caring.  Adults and students work together to meet these school and state goals.

We house two programs that represent some of the diversity that is found in our world.  We have a preschool program designed to be fully inclusive.  It addresses the needs of autistic as well as ECEAP children.  These children work and play together and each group learns many things from the other.  We also have a large number of ELD (English Language Development) students that add much to our environment.  These children and their families are from other countries, speak several different languages and contribute to our total learning culture at McDonald.  Many new and different concepts are taught about the world simply because these children are a part of our school.

McDonald has much community involvement.  We have partnered with people from Holman Gardens Retirement Center. These people volunteer at our school and work with children in the areas of reading and language development. Our Community Service Club, organized by Cindy Bergdahl (a third grade teacher) does much for the McDonald community.  This year they won the Chase Youth Award for community service.  We also have other service award winners:  Cindy Bergdahl and Marcia Asmussen (a parent volunteer).

McDonald's PTO offers students and families many wonderful opportunities.  This group provides Family Fun Nights, where families, staff and students can "play" together after school hours.  We have several parent classroom volunteers, talented art docents and room parents that contribute to McDonald's success, also.  Our PTO at McDonald devotes countless hours to our school and we are very thankful to have such a dedicated group of people.  Because of this group, technology at McDonald is supported, achieved and enhanced.
