PRINCIPAL’S
MESSAGE
Dear Parents and
Community:
Welcome to a
great school! Chester
continues to be a positive environment for children to learn.
For more than twenty-five years there has been a tradition of
high academic standards and strong parental involvement. These two factors continue to make this school stand out
above the crowd. Students
leaving this school after sixth grade are confident and ready to
meet the challenges of junior high and high school.
During the
2000-2001 school year the Chester staff has focused staff
development in the areas of teaching and assessing writing.
Our staff is dedicated to improving writing instruction and
it is our belief that this will increase student learning.
As a result, our test scores have continued to improve.
The Chester PTA
is very active. There
are currently many committees of parents working on different areas
that make our school extra special.
The parent volunteer program is very strong with more than
100 parents assisting in the classrooms and with special projects.
Chester provides
for children entering our school with a variety of different
programs to help them to be successful.
We have a Primary Intervention Specialist, school nurse,
school counselor, Special Education resource room teacher, and an
assistant in the primary math area.
Numerous children have qualified for the Able Learner program
that allows children to spend one day every week attending classes
for children with special abilities.
Sincerely,
Linda Uphus
