Dear
Parents and Community:
We
welcome this opportunity to acquaint you with the various
aspects of the academic and extracurricular programs of
Bowdish Junior High School.
The
building’s philosophy centers on our efforts to provide
students with the opportunities for growth and development
according to individual abilities, interests and needs.
We strive to challenge our students to reach their
highest level of achievements in a positive, safe, secure
environment.
Our students must develop fundamental academic
skills, competencies, and attitudes essential to becoming
responsible contributing citizens and lifelong learners in a
global society.
We encourage
parents to join us and an integral part of our young women
and men’s academic and social world.
Participation as well as input is encouraged and
welcomed.
With pride,
our students in Service Learning classes select activities
designed to help those less fortunate.
Activities such as collecting coats and blankets,
reading to younger children, gathering baby food, and
assisting with holiday decorations at elderly care centers
are just a few of the activities students can point to as
annual successes.
New to
Bowdish this school year is the Welcome Every Body (WEB)
program.
This national program provides incentives as well as
the organization of a peer-mentoring program.
Students new to Bowdish as 7th graders are
teamed with selected freshmen who provide guidance
throughout the school year.
Before the school year begins, new students
participate in a series of team building activities, get a
tour of the building, receive help with lockers, and also
receive some helpful advice on how to succeed academically.
This program, and the help it extends to new
students, excites us.
Our hopes
for the future are many.
Among them:
- Design
programs to meet the Washington Commission on Student
Learning higher standards of academic excellence for the
basics—reading, writing, communication, and
mathematics.
- Develop
an active and effective partnership with a local
business in order to foster school-to-work transition.
- Meet
the needs of diverse “at risk” students.
- Address
the “giftedness” of all students.
Bowdish
