Goals |
|
* We
continue to strive toward maintaining our reading goal on the Washington
Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in grade 4 which is 40.6 (% of
students) to meet or exceed the standard by 2001.
At McDonald we have been working towards meeting these specific
reading goals: initiate test taking practices to address format of tests
(3rd grade) and WASL (4th grade); Administer more
multiple choice questions in anticipation of ITBS (3rd
grade); Use Selection Assessments and Theme Assessments from Reading
Program (grades 1-4); Analyze WASL scores from previous years; Maximize
individual work; Reduce cooperative groups; Read short essays/answer
questions independently; Use computer programs that address
comprehension; Practice editing…tell students how many errors to look
for; Ask questions that address: who, what, why when, where, how; Have
student restate questions that are asked; Reinforce reading directions
carefully; Integrate Thinking maps for organization in all academic
areas; Use reading counts to supplement reading program.
*To
continue to involve parents in school activities and decision making through
PTO, SITE, Self-Study and monthly family activities.
*To
improve student learning in the areas of mathematics, reading, writing and
reasoning skills. Our staff
development and lesson plans reflected this goal this year.
*To
continue instructing children in area of math, writing and reading.
*To
continue to encourage implementation of the Six Traits writing program and
Thinking Maps throughout daily lesson plans, along with higher-level
thinking and questioning skill development.
*To
continue to implement the Self Study
document that was written during the 1997/98 school year and gives staff and
parents a common direction.
*To
work towards a higher degree of the celebration of diversity within our
school, due in part to the ELD program housed at McDonald.
*To
continue developing long-range technology plans within our building and
train staff in the implementation and application of these new programs.
* To
continue to build a community based volunteer reading program through RSVP and
Holman Gardens with emphasis on helping the young reader.
*To
continue support of the 4th grade WASL by pre and post
preparation classes.
