PRO-Team--Progress Reaches Out
The P.R.O. Team is an exciting outreach team from Progress Elementary. P.R.O. stands for “Progress Reaches Out” and reach out we do! The P.R.O. Team consists of all students in our school (No try outs or experience necessary. Any student can participate). Students volunteer to attend different outreach events throughout the year. The events include visits to the Union Gospel Mission, Special Olympics, Anna Ogden Hall, the West Central Community Center Skills Center for developmentally disabled adults, Sullivan Park Assisted Living Center, and many more!
The leaders of the P.R.O. Team are Progress Elementary’s A.S.B. officers. They help coordinate the events, attend each one, and encourage other students to participate. We couldn’t begin to count the number of lives they’ve touched through their generosity at these events…playing games, singing songs, doing art projects, writing letters, or simply just talking with them and showing the love that they feel in their hearts for those who need it the most.
Along with the outreach events the P.R.O. Team has an annual food drive for the Grace Harvest Food Bank. They regularly get donations of 2200-2500 pounds of food during the drive! The P.R.O. Team also has a children’s clothing drive each year for Anna Ogden Hall and an additional fundraiser for a charity chosen by the students. Previous fundraisers have been a car wash, a talent show, and selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts!
The P.R.O. Team also recognizes those students who give to others in everyday ways. Each month the group has an assembly to recognize “P.R.O. Team Players of the Month”. The “players” are students who have been nominated by other students, school staff, or parents for something nice he/she has done for someone else. Each selected “player” receives a P.R.O. Team t-shirt, a laminated certificate, and his/her picture posted on the P.R.O. Team bulletin board with a description of the kind deed. The acts of kindness vary from helping someone pick up a dropped lunch to finding a lost wallet to even saving a life! These acts that would otherwise go unnoticed are now being recognized and appreciated by everyone in the school!
