In addition to the selections and lessons in connection with our anthology (listed above), we will be doing guided reading each day where students are ability grouped into smaller groups. The anthology lessons and guided reading will take approximately 60 minutes each day. The stories in both the anthology and guided reading books are a wonderful mixture of fiction and non-fiction and balance well with our writers workshop. Two other big parts of our reading curriculum involve silent reading for 30 minutes each day, where students select chapter books of their own interest, and read aloud 20 minutes per day where I read quality literature to the students.
