Writer's Workshop

During Writer's Workshop each child is given the opportunity to write about different topics.  At the beginning of each workshop(minilessson), the student learns about a new writing technique or genre as the teacher integrates literature or models authentic writing for the children to see.  At the end of each minilesson, the teacher releases the students to take what they have learned and apply it into their own writing.

Units of Study:

   1. Launching writer's workshop

   2. Drawing, writing, and teaching

   3. Authors as Mentors

   4. Non-fiction Writing Procedures and Reports

   5. Revising and Editing

   6. Elaboration

   7. Poetry

At the end of every unit each student will choose a writing piece from that particular unit and take it through the publishing process.  When everyone has published thier writing piece we have a celebration in honor of what we have learned throughout the unit we studied.
