Classroom Environment

Hi!

My name is Heather Brown and I am the music teacher at Ponderosa. I teach grades 1-5 and the all-day kindergarten students. I am fortunate to have the students twice per week for thirty minutes.

There are many opportunities for students at Ponderosa to participate in music. On top of their regular music classes we also offer a special choir. The choir is called the Ponderosa Pine-Tones and meets each Tuesday from 8:15 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. The Pine-Tones perform at several venues throughout the community each year.

I use many different methods to teach music, but I primarily focus on the Orff Schuelwerk method. It is based on things children like to do like sing, chant rhymes, clap, dance and keeping a beat. These instincts are directed into learning by hearing and making music first and reading and writing later. This is the same way we all learn our language.

The students are all given the opportunity to participate in school music programs. Please check your child's Friday-folder for program times and dates. Another option is to look at the music calendar link from this page.

If you have any questions about your child's music education, please feel free to call or e-mail me at any time.

I'll see you at the programs!!!
