KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER – MAY 9, 2008
This week:What amazing authors we have! This week our writing focus was writing about what we do at recess. This was an opportunity for the students to show what they know meaning they received no help on this piece of writing. It was so exciting to read their work and see how much each has grown as authors. In reading we read books with the ‘ch’ sound and stories that used sequence words (first, next, then, last) to aid with both their reading comprehension and writing. The Rainbow words were by, from, and play. We will begin assessing soon so please keep practicing these words! Speaking of words, here are the 10 ‘No excuse’ words that we unscrambled and wrote. Please practice reading and spelling a, and, in, it, is, of, the, to, that, and you. In math we began subtraction using cubes or objects to help with learning the ‘taking away’ concept. We also finished introducing the coins. If a piggy bank is handy, practice naming and stating the values of the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. We also practiced coin exchanging such as trading in a nickel for five pennies.
