KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER – MAY 30, 2008

This week: The students did a variety of tubs this week while I did their individual end of year math assessments. How incredible it is to see how far they have come! We doubled up on tub activities and they worked in their writing folders, read from their book bags, spelled Rainbow words with Play-dough, completed vowel sorts and fill-in sentences, rolled a cube for a money exchange, skip counted by 2’s to complete a dot-to-dot, and filled in before, between, and after numbers. We have been doing some basic math reviewing, too, including coins, shapes, and counting backwards. To get ready for our acting and singing debuts next week we also had play and song rehearsals!

Deputy Craig: The morning class was on their best behavior when we had a visit from motorcycle-riding Deputy Craig! Deputy Craig came to talk to us about summer safety and also to show off the flashy lights and noisy knobs on his bike. What a treat! Thanks again Deputy Craig!

Character Counts: Congratulations to the May Students of the Month: Alexia H., Alaina G., Lakota C., and Peyton W.

Field Trip: It is Tuesday, June 3rd. Morning class is gone from 9:15-11:15 and afternoon class from 12:45-2:45. We are off to Dishman Hills Nature Area. Volunteers are still needed for the afternoon class! To make sure your student is adequately prepared, refer to the handout of the “Perfect Field Trip Student” in today’s folder.

End-of-year Play: We have been rehearsing this week and will do so next week, too. This week I am sending home a copy of the song lyrics should your budding vocalist want to practice in the shower. Invitations are being sent home today. The play is Friday, June 6th at 11:00 for the morning class and 2:30 for the afternoon class. The play will be performed in the Arts and Crafts room. We still need volunteers to bring one dozen cookies or juice boxes. Please send a note indicating what you can provide. Thanks for helping to make this end of year celebration extra special!

Sports Day: Friday, June 6th is dress up in your favorite sports attire or in your favorite team’s garb. Yes, this is the same day as our play.

Library Books: Please return any books that may still be out. If your child has lost a library book please replace it with a book of approximately the same value as the one lost. This needs to happen by the All-School Play Day on June 11th so your child can participate in this fun day.

Homework: Fast Start #24 is our final homework page being sent out. Please continue to read with your child on a regular basis.
