KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER – MAY 2, 2008

This week: Wow, it is May! Only 6 weeks left of kindergarten and yet still so much to do! We began our digraph of the week with ‘sh.’ We made a circle story map to show sequence or order of events in a story. The Rainbow words were as and were. Continue to practice the Rainbow words as knowing these words really improves your child’s reading fluency. In math addition story problems were solved and the nickel was introduced. We measured our bean plants and some students were able to take theirs’ home. In writing we continued to encourage adding more detail or unpacking our heavy sentences to give our readers more information.

Slammer/Jammer: So the Sonics are leaving Seattle. Well, no worries because next Friday, May 9, at 6:30, Ponderosa’s own staff will be playing their first-ever basketball game at Horizon Middle School. It is the Slammers vs. the Jammers! It is for a good cause, too. Go to www.cvsd.org/ponderosa to watch a short video clip for more information. Go Jammers!!

Character Counts: Congratulations to Carlee C. and Desiree W. They were our Students of the Month for April!

Snack: This should be the last request of the year so if you haven’t yet, please donate a box of crackers or bag of pretzels for the children’s community snack which they share daily. Thanks.
