KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER – MAY 23, 2008

This week: This was a week of ‘lasts.’ We focused on our last digraph ‘wh,’ learned our last three Rainbow words (but, had, her), and did our last five senses science activities that included a popcorn party which allowed us to use all 5 of our senses. Please ask your child what they learned about their 5 senses. In math we worked on subtraction. This is a difficult concept for some children. Help reinforce it with everyday activities using concrete items (snack items, dollars, toys, etc.).   Next week we will continue with the “Too Good for Drugs” curriculum.

Kindergarten Lunch: This was a fun lunch experience to familiarize them with the procedure for next year. It was so cute to see their pizza smiles afterwards!

Volunteer Brunch: Please try to come Wednesday morning between 8:00 and 9:00 for our ‘thank you volunteers’ brunch. We couldn’t do it without all of your help! Your time truly makes a difference in our classroom and school community.

Field Trip: More information will be sent home in next week’s Friday folder like what to bring, how to dress, etc. Thank you to those who volunteered to chaperone. I have sent home a confirmation note in the folder. We could still use 1 or 2 more volunteers in the afternoon class.

End of year ‘play’: We have just begun to practice our lines. I have sent home a copy of the script with your child’s line(s) highlighted. We will be practicing in class but feel free to run through it at home once or twice if your child wishes.  “Invitations” will be sent home next week but the play will be on Friday, June 6th at 11:00 for the morning class and 2:30 for the afternoon class. Also, if you are able to donate one dozen cookies or juice boxes for after the performance, please send in a note next week indicating this. Thanks so much!!
