KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER-MAY 16, 2008
This week:We started in the usual fashion with tubs for our digraph of the week, ‘th,’ addition to 7, and Rainbow word activities. Last week we learn our last 3 Rainbow words! We finished the week with science and health. Our final science unit is about the 5 senses and so far we have discussed seeing, hearing, and tasting. Today we had a ‘tasting’ party, trying samples of bitter, sweet, salty, and sour foods. For vision we made glasses and for hearing we listened and identified 50 sounds. The unit has 2 videos so this has been a real treat watching videos! We have also begun a ‘senses’ journal. For health we began our district’s drug and alcohol prevention program with a discussion of simple ways to have a great day, how our bodies work (brain, heart, lungs) and how to keep them healthy, and identifying safe and healthy practices to stay healthy. Homework from this curriculum is in today’s Friday folder. Please encourage discussion about these issues by doing the homework and asking questions.
Field trip:Permission slips are in today’s Friday folder. Please complete and return as soon as possible. We will be going to Dishman Hills Nature Area for a short hike followed by a class-made snack (trail mix) and play time on the playground. If you are interested in being a chaperone, please also fill out and return the half-sheet. Chaperones will be in charge of about 3-4 kids. Please no younger siblings if you are a chaperone. More information to follow as we get closer to the date!
Kindergarten lunch:There is a bright green document in the Friday folder with all of the details of this exciting lunch experience scheduled for next Wednesday. We will have fifth grade buddies help us get thru the line and open containers.
End of year ‘play:’ Friday, June 6th is the tentative date for our class end of year play and mini celebration with cookies and juice. Today we read the story that our play is based on. Roles will be assigned and scripts created. Look out Hollywood!
