KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER – APRIL 25, 2008
This week: It’s over…we’ve finished the alphabet and letter of the week activities! One of the things we have done weekly with each letter is draw an animal that starts with the letter and then use Rainbow words along with phonetically sounding out words to write a sentence about the animal. The kids will be bringing home their alphabet animal books next week. Enjoy noting the progress your child has made with their penmanship since the beginning of the year J. In Writer’s workshop we continued to ‘unpack’ heavy sentences and we also learned about using transition words (first, next, then, finally) in our stories. In reading the comprehension skills were noting important details and using what we already know to draw conclusions. We also built three-letter words. The Rainbow words were as, so, and with. In math we built puzzles with pattern block shapes, played the ‘reappearing train’ game, and began learning about money with a focus on the penny this week. As for our bean plants, several have sprouted so we were able to start measuring them!
Next week: We will begin a ‘digraph of the week.’ Digraphs are two letters together that make one sound such as sh, th, ch, and wh. In math we will introduce the nickel. The Rainbow words are as and were.
Person of the week: Each child has been person of the week so now they will take turns being the person of the day.
