KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER – APRIL 18, 2008
This week: Yes, it finally happened! The kids began their computer rotations and are so excited to be exploring and making silly pictures with the KidPix program. We continued with our letter of the week book and puppet for ‘Y’ and will finish up the alphabet with ‘Z’ next week. After the alphabet we will cover digraphs. The Rainbow words were all and went. This week’s story theme was ‘farms’ and we continued to discuss fantasy vs. reality and the importance of listening to what is happening in the stories to aid with understanding. In Writer’s Workshop we unpacked a ‘heavy’ sentence meaning that we discussed how authors write important details that their readers really need to know. For penmanship I have included a paper with your child’s first and last names for them to practice. They trace over the dotted first line and on the subsequent lines they begin each letter on the dots. This name model is how they are expected to write their name by the end of the year. We will also practice in class. In math we practiced addition to ‘5’, played the ‘Disappearing Train’ game, and continued in our math journals writing and illustrating addition problems. Also, it was about time we started learning about time so we did. We read a ‘Time’ story, made paper clocks, and explored our clocks’ hour hand. Finally we practiced measurement including measuring our bean plants for the first time although there wasn’t much to measure this week. Let’s hope they sprout by next Friday (maybe the plants are still waiting for Spring to arrive/winter to leave like we are J.)
Ponderosa Fun Run: Will you be at the 26th annual Ponderosa Fun Run tonight? You can still register before the run. It starts at 6:30. Hope to see you there!
