Dear parents,
This week we are doing an author study. Tomie DePaola is the author of many books. He has written stories about his childhood and his family. He takes a small moment in his life and expands it with many details that are quite entertaining. I am encouraging the children to write about the small moments in their lives. We will continue reading his books this month.
This week in reading I added these words to are list: said, have, ten, and pink. We are also practicing rhyming skills by playing a rhyming game. Rhyming is an important phonemic awareness skill.
In math we finished the number book with ten, played a one more dice game, played a shape race game and practiced reading number words.
I am sending home the family words sheet for you to fill out. This will be placed in your child’s writing folder. Please return ASAP. The weekly homework poem is there too.
Our PE teacher, Mrs. Rezin, has asked me to remind you to send shoes with your child on gym days. Running in boots can be dangerous for children. We have gym on Thursday and Friday. I let the children wear their boots and snow pants until after lunch as getting 22 children in and out of all those snow clothes a couple of times in the morning is too time consuming. In fact your child really does not need snow pants unless they have a long wait for the bus because no recess lasts longer than 15 minutes. If it is very cold or very wet/icy snow, it is inside recess.
November’s Pizza Hut free pizza reading calendar is due. You can return it on Monday if you have not done so all ready. Look for December’s calendar in the Friday folder.
