Health Update

As we head into the cold and flu season we start seeing more children out sick.  The most common symptoms of the flu are sore throat, headache and fever.

We are asking for your cooperation in curbing the spread of the flu.  We ask that you keep your child home from school if he/she has any of the following symptoms:

  • Sore throat, especially if accompanied by fever and/or swollen neck glands.  If your child is experiencing these symptoms please consider taking them to the doctor to rule out strep throat.  If your child is diagnosed with strep throat, he/she may return to school after being on antibiotics for 24 hours.  Fever greater than 99.9 within the last 24 hours.  Your child may return to school after being fever free for 24 hours.
  • Cough—one that is bad enough that you wouldn’t want your well child around someone coughing like that.
  • Unusually tired, cranky, or acting like they are sick.
  • Headache—especially if accompanied with fever or sore throat.

We also encourage taking this time to review with your child the importance of frequent hand washing.  Research has shown that frequent hand washing with warm, soapy water is the best preventative measure to use to avoid getting sick.

We recognize that there are times when your child will be fine in the morning and get sick during the day.  For this reason, please check with the office to make sure that we have local emergency contact numbers and the correct work phone numbers on your child’s file.
