The Daily Five

In our classroom, the students have been working really hard on mastering the Daily Five. Before long, they will be independent at Read to Self, Write to Self, Word Work, Listen to Reading, and Read to Someone. They have been focusing on building their stamina and they have done a fantastic job! While the students are working independently, at their own level,on one of the Daily Five sessions, I have the priviledge of working with your children one-on-one or in small groups based on their individual needs. I have really enjoyed seeing the progress that your children have already made!

In first grade, students work hard to master sight words (words that cannot be sounded out). They also learn various reading strategies for decoding (breaking apart the words) and comprehension (understanding what they read). Visit the link at the right side of the page for a list of sight words your child will need to be able to read by the end of the year.
