New STEM Classes Offered at Spokane Valley Tech

Now Enrolling for Sports Medicine and Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing

8/29/2012

High school students now have the opportunity to hone their skills, gain valuable experience and explore high-growth careers in medicine, aerospace and manufacturing at Spokane Valley Tech. Exciting new courses support an expanded focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) curriculum in schools across the region.

Registration is open now for Sports Medicine and Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing. These new credit classes begin in September and are offered after school, allowing more flexibility for students who already have a full class schedule. Both will initially be held at West Valley High School, prior to the opening of the Spokane Valley Tech building in January 2013. Interested students may enroll through their high school counseling office.

Spokane Valley Tech is an exciting new school providing relevant, rigorous and engaging classes for high school students interested in preparing for careers and college. Four programs offered for fall 2012 are Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing, Sports Medicine, Fire Science and Cosmetology. In September 2013, two additional STEM programs will be added -- Biomedical Innovation and Engineering Design & Development, both Project Lead the Way Capstone Programs.

Serving as the host school district, Central Valley is collaborating with East Valley, West Valley and Freeman School districts to establish Spokane Valley Tech, a branch campus skill center located in the Spokane Valley. Spokane Valley Tech offers flexible program and scheduling options in growth occupations for high school students in the Spokane Valley. The school also connects students to the careers and technical occupations they are considering through internships, job shadowing and hands-on programs.
