Central Valley Summer School Offers Many Choices

Academics, Sports and Summer Nutrition Program Available

Families are encouraged to register by June 20 for academic programs serving elementary, middle and high school students through Central Valley School District’s Summer School 2012.

Elementary and middle school students will enjoy the exciting new STEM Academy, improving reading and writing skills while exploring themes related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). High school students can choose from 20 academic credit courses including language arts, math, science and social studies. A variety of sports camps are also available at both University and Central Valley High schools.

Enrollment is open to all students with preference to Central Valley residents. Fees for academic courses range from $75 - $175 with tuition waivers available for eligible students. The academic programs run for five weeks beginning in late June and running through July. Sport camps are offered in May and June.

·         Academic Summer School Programs

o   Elementary Summer School – STEM Academy – The STEM curriculum will provide a hands-on project-based approach to learning and skill development. Grades 1-5 at Broadway Elementary, 11016 E. Broadway. June 25 – July 26.

o   Middle Summer School – STEM Academy - Project-based problem-solving approach to learning and skill development. Grades 6-8 at Central Valley High School, 821 S. Sullivan. June 25 – July 26

o   Grade 7 - Washington State History and Government – Native American and early history, civics and government are covered in this course which is a graduation requirement (Class of 2017 and beyond). Central Valley High School, 821 S. Sullivan. June 25 – July 26.

o   High School Credit Summer Courses – Credit courses in language arts, math, science, social studies and electives. Grades 9-12 at Central Valley High School, 821 S. Sullivan. Classes will run in two sessions. June 22 – July 27.         

·         Sports Camps – Registration available through coaches of each camp

o   Central Valley High School – Offering football, boys weight training, basketball (girls and boys), soccer, gymnastics and volleyball at 821 S. Sullivan

o   University High School - Offering baseball, basketball (boys and girls), football, volleyball, gymnastics, girls tennis, soccer (boys and girls) and weight lifting (boys and girls). 12420 E. 32nd Ave.

·         Summer Nutrition Program – June 25 – July 26

o   Offered at no cost to all children age 18 and younger. The program includes breakfast and lunch served in conjunction with Central Valley’s Summer School program. Broadway Elementary, 11016 E. Broadway. Breakfast 7:30 – 8:15 a.m. and Lunch served 12:00 – 12:45 p.m. June 25 – July 26 (Mondays – Thursdays).

·         Summer Child Care Programs

o   Central Valley’s Early Learning Center offers a variety of summer and year-round child care options for families with children ages 4 weeks to 6 years. Full-time and part-time available. Call 228-5810. 10304 E. 9th Avenue.

 

Register for academic classes by June 20 to avoid a $5 late registration fee. Classes fill quickly so register early! Parents should register students according to the grade they will enter in fall 2012. Tuition waivers may be available for eligible Central Valley students and academic courses.
