Community Invited to "Meet the Principal Finalists" Forum

Candidates Vie for University High School Position on April 16

University High School parents, students, staff and interested community members are encouraged to attend a special “Meet the Principal Finalists” Forum on April 16 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the school’s theatre at 12420 E. 32nd Avenue.

The forum will feature the two finalists for the position of University High School principal. The finalists are:

·         Kerri E. Ames – principal, Barker High School (Spokane Valley)

·         Andy E. Kelly – executive director, Abeo School Change (Seattle) - Candidate excused himself from further consideration on 4/13

·         Alan Robbins – principal, Columbia Falls High School (Montana)

Each candidate will spend 30 minutes speaking about their qualifications for the position and responding to questions from forum participants. Participants will be invited to submit written feedback about the finalists for consideration by the selection committee.

The finalists will spend the day at University High School engaged in a variety of activities including classroom walk-throughs. University High serves 1,600 students in grades 9-12 and is one of 22 schools in the Central Valley School District. The new principal will assume the leadership position on July 1, 2012, and replace retiring Principal Daryl Hart. For more information, call 228-5400.


Kerri E. Ames - principal, Barker High School - Spokane Valley, WA
Kerri Ames has served as principal of Barker High School in the Central Valley School District since 2008. During her tenure she has implemented a variety of innovative programs to serve an increasing and diverse alternative student enrollment of 230. Barker has twice received the Washington Achievement Award for improvement (2010, 2011), increased state assessment scores and successfully renewed its accrediation (2010.

Ames has been an educator for 17 years. She has nine years of administrative experience, previously serving as assistant principal at Rogers High School (Spokane), Spokane Valley High School (West Valley) and West Valley City School (West Valley). She has eight years of classroom teaching experience (social studies, math, language arts, science) of grades 5-12 in the West Valley School District. Ames holds a BA (Education) from Eastern Washington University, and a MA and P-12 Administration Certification from Gonzaga University.

Joseph “Alan” Robbinsprincipal, Columbia Falls High School -- Columbia Falls, MT
Alan Robbins has served as principal of Columbia Falls High School since 2007. During his tenure, he has fostered improvements in classroom management, developed a tiered intervention mathematics program, supported technology integration and championed school improvement leadership. He is also experienced in special education and building administration of the 728-student high school.

Robbins has been an educator for 18 years. He has seven years of administrative experience, previously serving as principal of Lincoln County High School (Eureka, MT). He has 11 years of classroom teaching experience (math) of grades 9-12. Robbins holds a BA (Electrical Engineering), Teaching Certificate (Math) and a MA (Education Administration) from Montana State University.
