10/28/2009
More than 700 students, teachers and parents at Liberty Lake Elementary will celebrate the second consecutive year of statewide recognition as a “Great School” during an all-school assembly tomorrow, October 29. The celebration begins at 2 p.m. in the Liberty Lake Elementary gymnasium, 23606 E. Boone Avenue.
The school has been honored again this year as one of the five percent highest improving schools in the state of Washington by The Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE). In collaboration with Phi Delta Kappa Washington State (PDK-WA), the CEE has acknowledged 104 schools in Washington State for demonstrating exemplary improvement in student achievement and meeting specific school of distinction performance criteria as measured by the past seven years of Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) test scores. Of these schools, 26 are repeat winners, including Liberty Lake Elementary.
“We are absolutely thrilled to receive this award for the second year in a row,” said Linda Uphus, principal. “It demonstrates and honors the commitment of our teachers, staff, students and community to continuous student achievement.”
The “Great School 2009” award was presented to 55 elementary schools, 25 middle/junior high schools and 24 high schools in recognition of outstanding sustained academic growth for the 2008-2009 school year at the annual “Great Schools and Exemplary Leadership Institute” luncheon in Seattle last month.
Liberty Lake Elementary serves more than 650 students in grades 1-5 and is one of 22 schools in the Central Valley School District. For more information, click here.
