Middle-eastern issues including Iraq, Afghanistan and the Palestinian/Israeli conflict will come alive for University High students today. Former Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker is scheduled to address a gathering of 12th grade students todayat 11:30 a.m. University High School is located in the Central Valley School District at 12420 E 32nd Avenue.
Ambassador Crocker will speak for about 30 minutes and then field questions from a four-student panel. Students previously prepared questions for the Ambassador in their Contemporary World Problems classes, which have been compiled for the panel to use.
“We invited Ambassador Crocker to University High School because of his long record of public service to this country and specifically because of his unique perspective on the Middle East,” explained social studies teacher Paul Schneider. “Our seniors are involved in learning about this part of their world and the Ambassador will, I’m certain, have a wealth of knowledge to share.”
Although University High School has an enrollment of about 1,600 students, today’s event is focused on 12th graders because they are studying the Middle East most closely and are expected to reap the most benefit from the Ambassador’s visit.
