Central Valley High School students are seeking the community’s help to replenish the shelves of the Spokane Valley Food Bank. Students will be collecting non-perishable food items at the Homecoming football game on Friday, October 23. The game will be played at Central Valley High School, 821 S. Sullivan Road.
The 25 students in Geoff Arte’s Holocaust class have taken a special interest in the food drive and are coordinating the collection of food donations at the football game. The students have set a goal to collect 5,000 food items or about 200 items per student and have already made progress toward their goal.
“We have more than 1,000 items piling up in my room,” explained Arte. “We want to keep the positive momentum rolling.”
The 13th annual Central Valley High School Food Drive is organized by the Leadership class. Leadership students will be trick or treating in Central Valley neighborhoods on and before October 31 for food donations. The annual food drive runs through November 2. Students have set a goal to collect 71,440 food items to fill the Spokane Valley Food Bank for the 800+ Spokane Valley families that go hungry each month.
Food and cash donations are being accepted during regular school hours or at the football game. For more information, call 228-5142. Central Valley High School has an enrollment of about 1,900 students and is one of 22 schools in the Central Valley School District (CVSD). Click here to visit Central Valley High School.
