9/10/2009
The annual gridiron rivalry between Central Valley High School and University High School tomorrow night will begin with student athletes and fans coming together to remember the heroes of September 11, 2001.
Local first responders and members of the military have been invited to serve as honorary team captains on the field during the coin toss at the start of the annual “Greasy Pig” football game. The honorary captains are representing local fire, police, emergency management (EMT), Army, Navy, Air Force and the Marine Corps. A moment of silence will follow the coin toss before the start of the football game.
The game will be played at Central Valley High School, 821 S. Sullivan Road with the coin toss scheduled to be held at 6:50 p.m.
“With the game scheduled on September 11, we were looking for a way to recognize the bravery of the fallen heroes of 9-11,” said Mike Hittle, principal of Central Valley High School. “What a nice way to honor our everyday heroes and also remember those who have served our country in so many ways.”
The Central Valley High vs. University High “Greasy Pig” football game is Friday night, September 11. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students without a GSL card. For more information, call 228-5100.
