Central Valley Offers Free Summer Meals for Kids

District joins East Valley, West Valley in Summer Nutrition Program

6/12/2009

Central Valley School District is gearing up to serve free meals to hundreds of hungry children this summer. Beginning Monday, June 22, children can enjoy a free, nutritious breakfast and lunch served at Broadway Elementary School.

The Summer Nutrition Program is offered at no cost to all children, 18 years and younger, who walk through the door. Registration is not required and children do not need to be a student of the Central Valley School District to participate. The district is offering free summer meals for children as follows:

·         Location: Broadway Elementary, 11016 E. Broadway

·         Dates: June 22 – July 23;  Mondays through Thursdays

·         Breakfast: 7:15 – 8:00 a.m.

·         Lunch: 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.

“Offering nutritious summer meals for children is an important service we are proud to be able to provide,” said Ben Small, superintendent. “We look forward to serving free breakfast and lunch to all children who walk through our doors. Based on the number of free and reduced-price meals served in Central Valley schools during the school year, we know there is tremendous need in our community.”

Central Valley School District launched the Summer Nutrition Program in 2004. Over the past five summers, the program has served more than 12,000 free meals to children. The program is funded through a reimbursement from the U.S. Dept of Agriculture and is offered at no cost to the Central Valley School District.
