Meningococcal disease

Meningococcal disease

Over the summertime, an informational letter was sent home regarding meningococcal disease and an available vaccine.  Currently, it is only a recommendation that adolescents and young adults receive this vaccine.

Why should I vaccinate my child against meningococcal disease? Meningococcal disease can develop rapidly and can quickly become a life-threatening  condition.  Adolescents and young adults are at increased risk to contract this disease.  Immunization against meningococcal disease can help prevent up to 83 percent of cases.
