Classroom Environment

Classroom Understanding:

Attitude Is Everything!
The right attitude for a child is:
1. I can!
2. I am nice and people are nice.
3. I am grateful for what I have.
4. If I can't, I will try again!

In our classroom we work in a cooperative, supportive manner where Pillars of Character (respect, responsibility, citizenship, honesty, trustworthiness and cooperation) are emphasized and a positive attitude is encouraged. No put downs are allowed. The curriculum is highly individualized as to challenge all students to reach their unique potentials. I strongly believe that children learn best in a positive and challenging atmosphere where mistakes are viewed as the best learning opportunities and where children are expected to work to their individual potentials.

My main goal, as a third grade teacher of many years, is to teach children to be active and responsible students. Study habits and motivation are critical to academic success, therefore, an environment which stresses cause and effect, natural consequences and goal setting is key to helping children develop a foundation for success. Children in this environment learn to be accountable learning citizens as opposed to passive receivers.

It is my firm belief that children benefit from a structured and consistent routine and can rise to a high standard in regard to behavior and academic success. We take pride in helping children achieve genuine independent accomplishments which they can call their own!

About Me

I have taught for over twenty years in the Central Valley School District. The majority of my teaching time has been spent in third grade. I have a Masters Degree in Education and have experienced a multitude of professional opportunities. However, teaching third graders and designing and implementing interesting curriculum designed to teach children thinking skills is what most interests me.
