Second Grade
Theme Two - Nature Walk

Theme Two is all about Nature.  Students will read both fiction and non-fiction stories that are set in nature.  The phonics skills we will focus on are long vowels with CVCe patterns, two sounds for g; consonant clusters (r,l,s); two sounds for c; double consonants and the VCV pattern.  We will work on the reading strategies questioning; evaluating; monitor/clarify; and phonics/decoding.  We will also leam about comparing and contrasting; fact and opinion; and categorizing and classifying.  We will work on building reading fluency.  In Grammar, we will work on telling sentences and questions, commands, and exclaimations.  Writing answers to questions in complete sentences, writing complete sentences, and writing paragraphs with main ideas and details will also be our focus in this theme.
